Jupiter 'Moor' to Earth Tonight

New Delhi - Jupiter, the largest planet in the Solar System, is rumored to be seen clearly and brightly on this night.

Planet Jupiter will reach a distance of closest approach to Earth on Monday (3/12), the said N.Sri Raghunandan Kumar of Planetary Society of India.

"The giant planet can be seen with the naked eye one hour after sunset in the east. Could also be seen throughout the evening and at midnight in the south," says Kumar, as quoted from TheHindu.

According to Kumar, Jupiter will be illuminated by the Sun and will look like an oval shape. This position occurs once every 13 months.

The position of Jupiter was previously occurred on October 29, 2011 and will take place on January 6, 2014.

Minimum distance of Jupiter to the Earth is 588 million km, while the maximum distance is 967 million kilometers ..

On Monday it will be the planet Jupiter is 608 million miles to Earth, which is close to the minimum distance.
